Bill Kohler gets tears in his eyes when he talks about the tough days of his nearly 18 years in the Army. It's not the brain injury or shrapnel in his body that get the disabled veteran down. Young lives lost too soon haunt the 45-year-old former medic.
"I had friends die overseas, and it's hard. I used to tell my command, 'If I die, that's OK because I had a good life. But these young guys, they haven't even had a chance to live. My only thing is, don't ever forget me,'" Kohler said.
He and two business partners are now carrying that sentiment into their new restaurant, Never Forgotten BBQ.
The new eatery is slated to open Memorial Day weekend at 2582 Eastern Blvd. in Springettsbury Township.
